About Us

The Fort McMurray Lacrosse Association’s goals and objectives are consistent with the Alberta Lacrosse Association’s mission statement and objectives:

MISSION STATEMENT
To develop and preserve the great game of Lacrosse in all its disciplines and heritage throughout Alberta, and to provide participants with diverse opportunities for the pursuit of individual and group excellence.

OBJECTIVES
To promote an opportunity for participation in the sport for everyone, regardless of sex, race, age or ability; to promote good fellowship among members and representatives; to assist in the improvement of Lacrosse; to play an active role in the preparation and implementation of Lacrosse education, training, supervision and development programs, to act as a liaison for members on any issues concerning the sport of Lacrosse in Alberta or elsewhere in Canada; and to promote uniform interpretation and administration of the rules of Lacrosse.

We have 3 divisions: Minor, Junior and Senior. All divisions are open to both male and female players and you do not need to have previous experience to participate. We have invested in sticks and gloves for our Wolf Pups – Mini-Tyke and Tyke players (aged 5-7) as participation at this level is important to ensure long-term growth and this allows players an opportunity to check it out in a fun and inexpensive setting.

Our home arena for games and practices will be at MacDonald Island (Suncor Leisure Centre). Individual teams may hold separate practice sessions at a variety of outdoor boxes located in the community. Our season typically runs from April and ends in June to coincide with the school year. We continue with a winter program to keep players in shape and the interest ongoing.

OUR HISTORY
The Fort McMurray Lacrosse Association was formed in 2003. The past 7 years have seen our numbers grow and the caliber of play steadily improve. Our dedicated players have been honored for their commitment through the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s Civic awards for Athletic Achievement.

VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are an important part of our organization; we appreciate the support of all of our parents and the board members who step forward when needed. We rely on your ideas, comments and feedback to ensure we offer the programs and events required to have a successful season.
